As protesters are taking to the streets, again, to vent their frustrations at the lasted executive order by President Trump that puts America first, border patrol and ICE agents are celebrating a return to upholding the law and protecting the American people.
Late on Friday President Trump signed an executive order putting a temporary, 90-day ban on refugees from countries that have a high risk for terrorism (full text of order). The ban targeted 7 countries (Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen) that were determined to carry that high risk, but only until a more strict and effective “extreme vetting” procedure can be put into place.
Protesters took to the JFK and LAX airports to show their support for a handful of refugees who were delayed or detained due to Trump’s order, journalists freaked out and Hollywood actors took to social media to express their fussiness once again. Oddly enough, those protesting Trump’s order were silent in 2011 when Barack Obama signed a similiar order putting a hold on refugees coming out of Iraq for 6 months.
Despite the usual suspects throwing their usual fits over yet another executive order from Trump that focuses on protecting Americans first, border agents are celebrating his decision as it comes after 8 years of stifling restrictions from Obama that suppressed their abilities to perform their duty.
The National Border Patrol Council, who for the first time last year gave their endorsement to a presidential candidate, issued a press release saying that the morale of border agents has “increased exponentially” since Trump’s order putting a temporary hold on refugees entering the country. They also expressed their gratitude at Trump’s actions that “empower us to fulfill this life saving mission”, which will “indeed save thousands of lives”.
Joint Press Release Between Border Patrol and ICE Councils
As representatives of the nation’s Frontline immigration officers and agents responsible for enforcing our laws and protecting our borders, we fully support and appreciate President Trump’s swift and decisive action to keep the American people safe and allow law enforcement to do its job. We applaud the three executive orders he has issued to date, and are confident they will make America safer and more prosperous. Morale amongst our agents and officers has increased exponentially since the signing of the orders. The men and women of ICE and Border Patrol will work tirelessly to keep criminals, terrorists, and public safety threats out of this country, which remains the number one target in the world – and President Trump’s actions now empower us to fulfill this life saving mission, and it will indeed save thousands of lives and billions of dollars.
Perhaps the people protesting Trump’s immigration orders should first listen to the brave men and women who protect our borders on a daily basis, and know firsthand the threats that we face.
Maybe they would finally see why it is so vital to everyone’s safety that our country enforces its laws. Unfortunately, the reality is that it would just send the protesters into an even more violent rage when they’re presented with patriots protecting the lives of Americans, which the protesters don’t seem to put a whole lot of value on.
