CNN was forced to issue a correction yesterday, after the written testimony of former FBI Director James Comey was made public, which validated President Donald Trump’s claim that Comey told him he was not under investigation.
It seems CNN’s “anonymous sources” have failed them once again, as only a day before they were breathlessly reporting that Comey would refute Trump’s claims. Unfortunately for the rapid anti-Trump media, that did not come to pass, and resulted in the following conflicting reports less than 24-hours apart.
In Trump’s termination letter to Comey he wrote,“While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the Bureau.”
CNN was forced to issue a correction to the top of their story, which previously claimed Comey would dispute Trump’s statement that the former FBI Director told him he was never under investigation.
CORRECTION AND UPDATE: This article was published before Comey released his prepared opening statement. The article and headline have been corrected to reflect that Comey does not directly dispute that Trump was told multiple times he was not under investigation in his prepared testimony released after this story was published.
Whoever posted this correction at CNN, every word must have been a struggle for them to type, as they rarely ever have to report anything that is positive for Donald Trump.
However, CNN and the mainstream media’s goal isn’t to report news accurately when it comes to Donald Trump, but rather they seek to post the most negative headlines possible in order to damage the president. Often times if you read the contents of the article, buried somewhere towards the end will be a statement that refutes the article’s entire claim, or it’s simply based on “anonymous sources”.
Even worse are the reports that are based solely on “someone familiar with the thinking” of James Comey, Donald Trump or anyone else they wish to use as a foundation for their articles. Once the headline flashes across social media, the press considers the damage to be done, as people are much more likely to share an “explosive headline” rather than a correction, and many people simply browse headlines.
CNN has again proved why they so many millions of America consider them to be Fake News, and I suspect they will crank their biased reporting into overdrive after Comey’s failure to deliver a “smoking gun” to impeach President Trump.
