A Florida has been “reassigned” to administrative duties after making a brief post on her Facebook page (has since been taken down) poking fun at the ‘Day Without Immigrants’ protest while thanking Donald Trump for cracking down on illegal immigration.
Veronica Fleming, who teaches a computer class at Parkside Elementary School in East Naples, made national news over a several sentence post on her social media account praising Donald Trump’s “massive deportation” policies, along with thanking the president and saying, “Let’s Make America great again.”
“The funny part about immigrants staying home is the rest of us who pay for them are here at work like we’ve always been. Looks like less mouths to feed today. Have fun while you still can. So glad to hear about massive deportation. Let’s make America great again. Thanks Donald Trump!”
Parkside Elementary School’s demographics are largely Hispanic, as Latino children make up 70% of the student body and Haitians account for another 20%,
Fleming pointed out the irony of the Day Without Immigrants protest by explaining the citizens of America who are working that day are actually paying taxes, which in part go to fund the various programs available to assist illegal immigrants in certain states.
Given the cultural makeup of the school, it wasn’t long before parents were triggered by Fleming’s comments and expressed outrage to the school’s principle. The school’s administration responded to the parent’s concerns by quickly distancing themselves from the teacher’s opinions.
“We greatly appreciate our parents who have communicated to the school to share concerns so that we can address this issue,” principal Tamie Stewart said. “I want to ensure our families that this person’s individual post is not at all reflective of our school staff in any way.”
The school ended up punishing Fleming by “reassigning” her to the district’s administrative offices, pending a full investigation into the matter.
When employers “reassign” or suspend an employee while they conduct an investigation, it’s usually a signal that they will be fired shortly after, as soon as the Human Resources department gets their documents in order to prevent a possible wrongful termination lawsuit. It also gives them some time to let the story fade from the press to prevent backlash from those who support Fleming’s right to free speech.
Fleming’s reassignment isn’t enough for triggered liberals, however, as they have started a petition on Change.org that calls for her immediate termination, which has garnered a little over 3,000 signatures.
Perhaps Veronica Flemming should simply claim her Facebook account was hacked, and the hacker intentionally posted the message to inflame the community, as the Colorado GOP claimed during the primaries when they posted “We did it. #NeverTrump”, which was an obvious breach of their so-called impartial policies.
If Veronica Flemming does end up getting fired from her position over a Facebook post showing support for the president’s policies, I’m sure she could find a much better teaching job in a more conservative, patriotic area of the country.
