It appears the Republican establishment is taking one more shot at preventing Alabama senatorial candidate Roy Moore from winning the upcoming special election in December, as a third candidate has emerged proposing a “write-in” campaign as an alternative to Moore and his Democrat opponent Doug Jones.
This latest strategy comes only after the campaign to push sexual misconduct accusations against Roy Moore from nearly forty years ago began to fall apart last week, failing to sully his character and ultimately force him to step aside. Several of the accusers against Moore have seen their stories fall apart in the past weeks, especially in the case of Beverly Young Nelson, who claimed that Moore assaulted her in the parking lot of a diner she worked at in the 1970s. In fact, Nelson used a supposed signature in her yearbook of Roy Moore’s as “proof” her claims were true, but unfortunately for Moore’s opponents the signature contains blatant inconsistencies when compared to what would have been Moore’s actual signature at that time, including the letters “DA” written after his name when in fact Moore as an Assistant DA at the time. Moore’s assistant, however, would have signed her initials, also “DA”, after his name on legal documents at the time, leading Moore’s supporters to claim Nelson simply copied a signature off of court documents that she obtained during a divorce hearing that Moore assisted her with.
Even after an all out assault on Roy Moore’s character, the latest Alabama polls show him leading his opponent by 5 points and the mainstream media has been forced to admit that Alabama voters are standing by Roy Moore, realizing that a coordinated effort is taking place to prevent him from becoming a senator.
Now, it appears the GOP establishment is making one last “hail Mary” effort to prevent Roy Moore from winning the Alabama election, as retired Marine Colonel Lee Busby has announced his run for senator against Moore.
When retired Marine Col. Lee Busby read it was too late for a write-in candidate for the Alabama Senate race, he said, “Hold my beer, we will just see about that.”
Busby told The Daily Beast on Monday he is launching his long-shot bid to stop Republican nominee Roy Moore from reaching the Senate.
“I have no idea if the allegations against him true or not, but I don’t see anything within his experience as a judge that qualifies him for the job.”
Busby said his state needs a choice other than Moore or Democrat Doug Jones.
“Alabama is not happy with the two choices we have down here. They are not appealing.”
Busby said he spent 31 years in the Marine Corps and on his last tour of duty was vice chief of staff to then-Gen. John Kelly, who is now White House chief of staff.
Busby states he simply wants to give Alabama voters an alternative choice in the election, but has no actual campaign ground game, marking efforts or fund raising efforts. Instead, Busby is relying solely on social media to try and convince enough voters to write-in his name on the ballot, all in a last ditch effort to rob Moore of enough votes to prevent him from taking office.
Although Busby claims he isn’t targeting Moore by making his bid in the Alabama election, he has admitted to attending a fundraiser for Moore’s Democrat opponent Doug Jones earlier this year. However, Busby denies making financial donations to Jones, claiming he only attending a fundraiser for the candidate.
What are the chances that Busby happens to attend a fundraiser for Democrat candidate Doug Jones, yet refuses to open up his wallet and contribute to his campaign efforts? What would be the purpose of attending the fundraiser to begin with…was he simply taking advantage of an open bar?
If the previous assault on Roy Moore using sexual assault accusers didn’t convince the voters that there is a coordinated attack against him due to his “outsider” status, then this latest extravagant effort to prevent Moore from winning the Alabama special election should convince them that Mitch McConnell and the GOP establishment will stop at nothing to prevent pro-Trump, outsider candidates from reaching Washington. The message is simple: Any outsider Republican candidate hoping to shake up the status quo in Congress will be met with fierce resistance from the establishment, have their lives turned upside down and will be fought every step of the way regardless of how the voters feel. Either you’re part of the establishment club and you fall in line with McConnell, or you’re a target from unfounded claims and constant attacks in the media.
Unfortunately for the establishment, Trump has pulled back on the curtain on their true motives and false attacks on political outsiders, opening the eyes of voters to the blatant corruption that is festering in Washington. They can no longer fool voters with salacious headlines and random accusations, as they have used for years at the standard game plan to oust non-establishment candidates, and voters are more equipped than ever to fight back against corrupt establishment candidates who seek nothing more than their own personal gain by taking their place in the “swamp” of Congress.
