An exhausted looking Hillary Clinton made her first public appearance since her concession speech last as she attended the Children’s Defense Fund’s gala in Washington, D.C.
All eyes were on Hillary as she told the crowd that after the election she “wanted to curl up with a book or our dogs and never leave the house again”, a suggestion that her opponents probably wouldn’t argue with. During Clinton’s 20 minute address, about the half the time she would usually be making a public speech such as this one, she said that coming to the event was difficult and “I didn’t get into public service to hold high office”. Strange choice then, to run for the highest political office in the country.
Hillary Clinton’s appearance at this event looks quite different than when she was on the campaign trail, or how she appeared in publications, as she looks very exhausted, run down and just plain tired.
As much as I dislike referencing someone’s physical appearance, I do recall the Democrats making fun of Donald Trump for his skin tone appearing “orange” during his events, even calling him an “Oompa Loopa”, in reference to the orange skinned workers in Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. They also tried to make fun of his hair and hands on left leaning news websites, like The Huffington Post, throughout the campaign. But when you’re running for president, expect the media to be critical of your appearance, especially if you are a Republican.
It seems apparent that Clinton has been suffering from loss of sleep, which is evident in the large bags under her eyes. Her hair also looks noticeably different than it has in the past months
These pictures come as a stark contrast to how Hillary was portrayed in the media, often times making her appear 30 years younger. If you look at the example of an advance copy of Newsweek that was prepared in anticipation of a Clinton victory, you’ll notice a drastic difference, especially with her hair.
The only other photo of Hillary Clinton after her election defeat is one that came out when she was walking her dog and happen to run into a neighbor who was also taking a walk. Although for someone just taking a walk in the woods not expecting to run into anyone else, it’s surprising that she looks more prepared for a public picture here than she does at the event she attended Wednesday night.
In fact, the closest picture I can find of Hillary appearing like she does at this event is her recorded address to Union workers during her campaign, famously asking the question, “Why aren’t I fifty points ahead?“
This has left me wondering if Hillary Clinton purposefully decided not to make herself appear as she did during public events on the campaign trail, perhaps no longer seeing a reason to “put on a show” since there isn’t an election to win. Others have suggested that maybe she was seeking sympathy from the public.
Regardless of the reason, you can tell by these photos she has clearly been affected by the shock, stress and frustration no doubt incurred at the hands of Donald Trump and his victory last week. Perhaps Hillary should take Donald Trump’s suggestion and go home to “take a nap”.
