With all of the speculation surrounding Hillary Clinton’s health over the past 48 hours, this slip of the tongue by an ABC news anchor on live television certainly came at an ironic time.
While reporting Clinton’s health issues on Sunday, WABC-TV news anchor Joe Torres started out his broadcast by saying, “Good evening, we begin with Hillary Clinton’s death.”
The reporter continued his broadcast, seemingly unaware of his slip up, and reported on the events at the 9/11 memorial that morning where Hillary Clinton was forced to make a hasty exit due to a “medical episode”. Clinton’s knees buckled as she was about to enter her van, surrounded by secret service and being propped up by her assistant, when she collapsed and had to be lifted into the vehicle.
Secret Service seemed to be a hurry to get her out of there, so much so that she reportedly left one of her shoes behind that fell off when she collapsed.
After Joe Torres made the slip up of his life on live television, mistakenly reporting Hillary Clinton’s health, TVspy reached out for comment from the WABC news station.
“During a live introduction to a story about the health of Hillary Clinton, Joe Torres inadvertently said ‘death’ when he meant to say ‘health.’” a station spokesperson said. “It was clear from the context of the story, the reporters’ information and graphics on the screen that Secretary Clinton was alive and recovering.”
They claimed that Torres meant to say “health” rather than “death”, but considering the two words don’t sound particularly alike, you have to wonder what was really on this reporter’s mind at the time.
