After going 273 days without holding an open press conference (last time was Dec 4th), even members of the mainstream media are wondering why Hillary Clinton has been avoiding the press.
The wait is finally over as to when Clinton will hold her next press conference, or at least a general time frame, as her lead press secretary Brian Fallon told ABC News that, if elected, “Hillary Clinton will hold press conferences.”
Fallon went on to say, that “the frequency of them is something that would just play out as time went on”.
So no Hillary Clinton press conferences BEFORE the election in November, but once she becomes President of the United States, she will hold them as needed. I guess the voters don’t need to know the type of person they’re electing, until they are already in office, and can plan for a scripted press conference by knowing the questions ahead of time.
Brian Fallon continues to say that, “the amount of interaction can only go up,” as he noted Clinton will soon be traveling on a much larger airplane than she currently as been, and this will allow her to take members of the press along for the ride.
It appears the Clinton campaign’s solution to the “no press conferences” issue is to cart around select members of the press on her “larger” aircraft so that they will supposedly have greater access to her. However, this press access is still taking place behind closed doors, in a controlled environment and while they may be on the same plane as Hillary, they will only be given access if her staff allow it.
Having a traveling press corps still allows for controlled interactions and a scripted event, and of course Clinton will be prepped ahead of time.
Even the New York Times has begun to turn on Hillary for her complete avoidance of the press, as Amy Chozick wrote an article titled, “Where Has Hillary Clinton Been? Ask the Ultrarich.”
At a private fund-raiser Tuesday night at a waterfront Hamptons estate, Hillary Clinton danced alongside Jimmy Buffett, Jon Bon Jovi and Paul McCartney, and joined in a singalong finale to “Hey Jude.”
Mr. Trump has pointed to Mrs. Clinton’s noticeably scant schedule of campaign events this summer to suggest she has been hiding from the public. But Mrs. Clinton has been more than accessible to those who reside in some of the country’s most moneyed enclaves and are willing to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to see her. In the last two weeks of August, Mrs. Clinton raked in roughly $50 million at 22 fund-raising events, averaging around $150,000 an hour, according to a New York Times tally.
It’s ironic that Hillary Clinton has in the past tried to portray Donald Trump as an elite billionaire who is completely out of touch with the middle class, when it appears to gain access to Hillary it will cost you 6 figures. While Hillary is out fundraising with the rich and famous, Trump is visiting the actual voters at a church in Detroit, and it didn’t cost them $10,000 per person either.
And while Mrs. Clinton has faced criticism for her failure to hold a news conference for months, she has fielded hundreds of questions from the ultrarich in places like the Hamptons, Martha’s Vineyard, Beverly Hills and Silicon Valley.
For a donation of $2,700, the children (under 16) of donors at an event last month at the Sag Harbor, N.Y., estate of the hedge fund magnate Adam Sender could ask Mrs. Clinton a question. A family photo with Mrs. Clinton cost $10,000, according to attendees.
While the average members of the press will have to wait until Hillary Clinton becomes president in order to attend a press conference with her, unless they make a hefty donation to her campaign of course, Donald Trump has been busy crisscrossing the country visiting voters of all different classes delivering a message of unity and hope.
It isn’t hard to see why Clinton doesn’t feel the need to hold a real press conference, she already has the media fighting for her every day, while at the same time attempting to downplay Trump’s recent rise in the polls. And let’s not forget that while Trump was busy visiting victims of the flood in Louisiana, Clinton was at yet another fundraiser snapping selfies with Justin Timberlake.
Hillary sure knows how to live the high life and rake in millions of dollars in donations, all the while the middle class suffers job/wage stagnation with no end in sight.
Finally, the New York Times sums up how Hillary has been catering almost exclusively to the wealthy elite, and holding fundraisers to benefit her own campaign rather than attempting to connect with the average voters or holding press conferences.
If Mr. Trump appears to be waging his campaign in rallies and network interviews, Mrs. Clinton’s second presidential bid seems to amount to a series of high-dollar fund-raisers with public appearances added to the schedule when they can be fit in. Last week, for example, she diverged just once from her packed fund-raising schedule to deliver a speech…. when she has had a give-and-take this summer about issues, Mrs. Clinton, who has promised to “reshuffle the deck” in favor of the middle class and portrayed Mr. Trump as an out-of-touch billionaire, has almost exclusively been fielding the concerns of the wealthiest Americans.
