An improvised explosive device (IED) detonated in New York City tonight causing mass panic and multiple injuries. The explosive device was apparently placed into a dumpster in the Chelsea area and left to detonate, sending the dumpster flying to the other side of the street.
Police are stating that at this time, there appears to be no link to terrorism, but it was an intentional act and custom made device. So far there are 29 people reported injured, with one in serious condition.

There were also reports of another explosive device planted in the city, as police received an anonymous phone call with the location of it, but after investigating it was found to be a pressure cooker.

NYC Mayor Bill DeBlasio stated that this explosion was an “intentional act”. I would imagine so, considering someone has to physically construct and place a bomb into a dumpster, they don’t come equipped with IEDs all by themselves.
This attack, which is the only way to describe it at this point, in Chelsea came after a pipe bomb exploded earlier today in Seaside Park, New Jersey, at the site of the 5k Marine Charity Race. The pipe bomb in this instance was placed in a garbage can and detonated at about 9:30 am, but there were no injuries reported. The charity race, however, was canceled due to this event.
Police in New Jersey reportedly found 2 or 3 other pipe bombs located around the same area later on.
With two explosive devices going off in the two heavily populated areas of New Jersey and another in New York City, one has to consider the possibility of the events being related. After all, what are the chances of similar explosive devices being placed in garbage receptacles on the same day in two states that neighbor each other.
We will await further reports from law enforcement as the situation develops, and hopefully the culprits can be found and a motive uncovered. Whatever the reason for this attack may be, you can bet that the Clinton campaign is just praying it had nothing to do to radical Islamic terrorism or refugees. If it did, this would just be another in a long string of incidents that make Donald Trump’s case for stronger borders look like common sense.
Fox 5 NY reports:
NEW YORK (FOX5NY.COM) – 29 people were hurt, one seriously, after an explosion in the Chelsea area of Manhattan on Saturday night. The first reports came in just before 8:30 via social media. People reported hearing what sounded like a large blast.
At a news conference late Saturday night the NYPD reported that an area on 27th St. between 6th and 7th was being investigated for another possible crime scene in connection with the blast. Fox News reported that sources said a second device was found and was a pressure cooker.
Residents in the area got emergency alerts from the city to stay away from windows.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said that the initial blast appeared “intentional” but said that there was “no evidence at this point of a terror connection” in the explosion.
Initial reports from the scene indicated that it happened in a trash can or dumpster but later reports claimed it happened in the street. The force was so strong that it blew out windows on a neighboring building.
The blast that happened in an area that has several restaurants. Many people were in the area during a beautiful late-summer evening. Witnesses told Fox 5 News that people “started running for their lives” after the blast.
Several people were taken to hospitals with various injuries. The FDNY tweeted that none of the injuries appear to be life-threatening.
The NYPD flooded the area with crews and emergency vehicles.
