A teenage Muslim girl in New York City has been charged by the NYPD with falsifying a police report, as after a substantial investigation into her claims of being attacked by Trump supporters it was discovered she fabricated the entire story.
Yasmin Seweid, who is an 18-year-old college student, reported on December 1st that while she was riding the subway near her school 3 men assaulted her, tried to pull off her hijab and were yelling the name “Donald Trump!”
The mainstream media quickly latched onto the story and it was featured on front pages all over the world, using it as an example to reinforce their narrative of a “hate crime surge” since Trump’s election.
Seweid said that since her phone was dying she wasn’t able to call her family after the incident until she managed to find a charging station. The following day she went to the police station to comb through surveillance footage in order to identify the mysterious Trump attackers. The only problem is that she was unable to identify any of the alleged attackers in the videos, and considering that New York City is plastered with surveillance cameras, this caused police to get suspicious of her account.
The girl had even told the press, “I was harassed on the subway last night, and it was just so dehumanizing I can’t speak about it without getting emotional.”
Media outlets were calling out supposed witnesses of the attack on the subway with headlines like “Shame on subway riders who didn’t help“. Perhaps this news source should issue an article titled “Shame on Muslim Woman for Reporting Fake Trump Hate Crime” now that her story has been proved false.
The young Muslim women admitted yesterday that she made up the entire story, giving the reason that she was post her curfew, drinking with friends, and didn’t want to get in trouble with her father.
A Muslim student who said she was harassed on the subway by drunken, hate-spewing white men shouting “Donald Trump!” lied to police because she broke her curfew, law enforcement sources said Wednesday.
Yasmin Seweid, 18, joined a growing list of local and national alleged hate-crime victims when she told cops she was taunted Dec. 1 on the No. 6 train by three men who called her a terrorist and tried to snatch her hijab off her head while straphangers did nothing.
But Seweid finally broke down Wednesday and was arrested after she admitted to detectives that it was all a big lie.
“Nothing happened, and there was no victim,” a police source said.
Perhaps this Muslim teen had some cause to be afraid of her family, who are Egyptian immigrants, as it’s also been reported that her father shaved her head as a punishment for dating a Christian boy.
Her strict, Muslim parents allegedly forced Seweid to shave her head over the incident and were upset that she was dating a Christian, sources said.
The bareheaded Baruch College student, not wearing her hijab, was charged with filing a false report and released after her arraignment early Thursday in Manhattan Criminal Court. A relative covered Seweid’s face with a black down jacket as she was escorted into a waiting SUV following her brief court appearance.
She faces up to a year in jail for each charge.
Oddly enough, Yasmin Seweid’s younger brother was also charged in 2012 for falsely reporting a hate crime, in which he also claimed 3 white males assaulted him.
This is the 2nd case of a young Muslim college student reporting a fake hate crime attack by Trump supporters, as last month a woman reported that two white male Trump supporters attacked her, tried to steal her hajib (of course) and were wearing Donald Trump hats. She eventually admitted to police that she made up the entire story.
There was also an African-American man in Massachusetts who made up a story about Trump supporters assaulting him and saying they were going to lynch him, which turned out to be yet another hoax.
Perhaps the media, who has been obsessed with stories of “fake news” helping Trump get elected, should dig a little deeper into claims of hate crimes perpetrated by Trump supporters before they blast headlines attempting to tarnish him and his voters.
The demand for hate crimes by the media seems to be rapidly outpacing the supply, forcing them to spread explosive claims before they are properly investigated by police.
