Last week in an address to the European Union parliament, British firebrand Nigel Farage came to the defense of President Trump while using his democratic election victory as a contrast to the EU’s unelected leaders who make policy for the entire bloc.
What many people may not have noticed is that Farage, in a show of support for President Trump and his swift political actions since his inauguration, was wearing a blue “TRUMP Make America Great Again’ campaign pin on his suit jacket.
Farage came to the defense of Trump to parliament members, who were obviously worried over the president enacting executive orders so quickly after taking office along with his “America First” focus, explaining to them that Trump is simply doing what the people who elected him expect.
“Within one week [Trump] said he will hold faith with his electorate, it is called genuine democracy”, Farage said.
Farage continues by contrasting Donald Trump being elected by American voters, which gives him a mandate to issue the policies he promised them, versus the heads of the European Union by saing, “Unlike the system we have in the European Union, where the unelected commissioners like Mogherini (an Italian EU politician) here have the sole right to propose legislation.”
Trump and Farage had a close relationship during the election, with the two often comparing Trump’s campaign to that of Farage’s support for Brexit, both being unpopular with the establishment ruling class of their countries yet ultimately proving victorious with the support of the voters.
Farage even appeared at one of Trump’s campaign rallies in Mississippi and told the audience, “I wouldn’t vote for Hillary Clinton if you paid me!” Nigel Farage effectively threw his support behind Trump, who rightly predicted that like Brexit he would achieve a surprise victory in the November election.
After his victory in the presidential election, Nigel Farage met with Trump at Trump Tower, posing for a picture in his iconic gold elevator.
It should come as no surprise Farage and Trump share a kindred spirit, with both being outspoken, honest and victorious in a campaign to give political power back to the people of their countries.
