Yesterday the story broke regarding four teens and one 24-year-old who kidnapped and tortured a white man in Chicago for up to 48 hours, but Chicago police had yet to levy any charges against the suspects involved.
Now, Cook County prosecutors have officially announced charges in this case, which includes hate crime charges, kidnapping, assault as well as one of the suspects being charged with stealing a van, which they used to kidnap and transport the victim. It was later reported that the victim was “special needs” and was made to drink toilet water during his captivity.
Jordan Hill, 18, of Carpentersville; Tesfaye Cooper, 18, of Chicago; Brittany Covington, 18, of Chicago; and Tanishia Covington, 24, of Chicago; were each charged with aggravated kidnapping, hate crime, aggravated unlawful restraint, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and residential burglary, according to the Cook County state’s attorney. Hill was also charged with robbery and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
The video shows the victim being forced to drink toilet water, tied up, slashed, beaten and yelled at.
“Bro look. (Screaming). Get to the corner, put your hands against the wall, bro,” one of the attackers said.
The victim, who is from northwest suburban Crystal Lake, was reported missing from nearby Streamwood by his parents on Monday. Police said they had not heard from him since Saturday, when they dropped him off at the McDonald’s near Schaumburg and Barrington roads.
A manager told ABC7 Eyewitness News the young man often came to the restaurant to eat and would hang out until it was time for closing.
Chicago police said the victim encountered one of the suspects on Monday – apparently someone he’d met before – and he was driven into the city. They did not say which suspect that was.
“He is an acquaintance of one of these subjects. They stole a van and brought him to Chicago,” Area North CPD Commander Kevin Duffin said Wednesday.
The manager said he did not see the 18-year-old leave with anyone, so he doesn’t know when he came into contact with the group.
Social media exploded yesterday after this crime was made public, with the hashtag #BLMKidnapping quickly trending to the top of Twitter.
Online commenters speculated that police may be trying to quietly suppress this case, as the Chicago PD Chief initially described this crime as just “kids being stupid”, which led many to believe he was trying to downplay its severity.
The kidnap victim was tied up, had his mouth tapped shut, was cut with a knife on a his head and made to drink toilet water. Hardly a situation of “kids being kids”, unless that statement has changed drastically from maybe some cases of prank phone calls.
The video of this ordeal was broadcast live on Facebook for over 30 minutes, in which the kidnappers repeatedly make racist and anti-Trump statements such as “F*** Donald Trump, F*** white people, boy!” Although the video was removed from YouTube, it can still be viewed here.
Prosecutors have rightfully called this a hate crime, as the kidnappers made it very clear why they were torturing this poor special needs man.
And in case the media is wondering what might have motivated a high percentage of white voters to supporter Donald Trump, here is an illustration for the oblivious media.
