Police in San Antonio, Texas are in hot water for wearing a certain presidential candidate’s campaign apparel while on duty yesterday. I’ll give you a hint, the apparel had something to do with Making America Great Again.
As they were escorting presidential candidate Donald Trump to his airplane yesterday, officers of the San Antonio Police Department were treated to free “Make America Great Again” hats and a personal thank you from Trump. It is widely known that Trump has made “law and order” one of the cornerstones of his campaign, while consistently engaging police who are working security for his events. Law enforcement agencies have been largely receptive to Trump’s praises, as he has endorsed by the largest law enforcement union last month, The Fraternal Order of Police.
Donald Trump proudly tweeted a short video of himself shaking hands with and greeting the police before he departed the tarmac.

However, not everyone has pleased at these officers showing their support for Trump while on duty, as according to KXAN Texas, both the police chief and mayor issued a verbal reprimand after the picture went public.
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (KXAN) — San Antonio police officers who wore Donald Trump campaign hats on the airport tarmac as they met the Republican presidential hopeful Tuesday will be disciplined, the chief said.
Chief William McManus said the officers wearing the “Make America Great Again” hats violated department policy.
“SAPD officers are charged with protecting the entire community,” McManus said. “The officers displayed poor judgment.”
In a video Trump posted to Twitter, more than a dozen officers are seen around Trump as he’s about to depart San Antonio. Officers can be heard saying, “Thank you sir” and seen giving the thumbs up sign before they walk away with the red baseball caps on.
“I expect them to know better than to give the appearance of endorsing a candidate while on duty and in uniform, regardless of the political campaign or the candidate,” the chief said in a statement.
San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor said in a Twitter post she was deeply disappointed by the officers’ lack of judgment. “Police must be above politics & serve everyone equally… Everything they do should send that message and today’s actions did not.”
The mayor of San Antonio, Ivy Taylor(pictured below), was very disappointed by their “lack of judgment”, insisting that the department should not show their political preferences.
Mayor Taylor, however, is a Democrat, so it should come at no surprise that she isn’t happy with anyone showing support for the Republican presidential candidate.
Although I’m willing to bet anything that if these officers were pictured wearing Hillary Clinton’s “Stronger Together” campaign apparel, they would all be receiving medals of merit for showing such support, along with being praised on every mainstream news network in the country.
When Donald Trump says, “Double Standard”, he means it.
