After Friday’s announcement by FBI Direction James Comey that the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server has been “reopened” due to new evidence emerging from Anthony Weiner’s laptop, Trump is taking aim at deep blue states that could turn his way in this election.
With only 8 days to go until election day, Donald Trump is utilizing every moment and taking advantage of the recent blow to the Clinton campaign. While Hillary’s camp is preoccupied with damage control on yet another scandal to hit the Democratic candidate, Trump is rallying in New Mexico and Michigan.
As per the Trump campaign schedule page:
The Republican candidate has a very narrow path in the electoral college in order to find victory in this presidential race, and will need to flip at least 1 state that has gone blue over the past two elections.
Recent state polls have not yet caught up to Friday’s announcement that the Clinton email investigation has been reopened, and even before this blow to Democrats came, existing polls showed a race that could still go Trump’s way.
Michigan’s Real Clear Politics average:
New Mexico’s Real Clear Politics average:
Although political pundits may argue that these stays are a lock for Clinton, this race has proven to be anything but predictable, and Donald Trump has shown tremendous ability to succeed where no one believed he could. New Mexico has had very little polling performed, with one poll showing the race as close as 4 points back in September, and there have certainly been plenty of developments since then that would hurt the Clinton campaign.
Are Donald Trump’s internal campaign polls showing a much tighter race in these states than public polling is?
