Donald Trump and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held a joint press conference today after meeting to discuss trade between the two countries and their nation’s relationship.
During the conference Trump touched on taking action as soon as next week to bolster national security in response to the 9th Circuit Court’s ruling to uphold the stay on his travel ban.
Trump calls on a reporter who asks the president how he will respond to the ruling that placed a hold on his travel ban order. President Trump points out that the reporter’s question was completely unrelated to his meeting, which happens at almost every news conference as reporters would rather focus on controversy than policies that will benefit Americans.
President Trump responds by saying, “We’ll be doing something very rapidly, having to do with additional security for our country, you’ll be seeing that sometime next week. In addition he says they will continue to go through the court process and ultimately has no doubt that he’ll win that particular case.
Next a Fox News reporters asks Trump, now that his executive order is on hold, how confident is he that his administration would be able to protect the homeland and the American people.
“I feel totally confident that we will have tremendous security for the people of the United States,” Trump responded as he also mentions extreme vetting and how he’s learned of the severity of threats facing our country today. The president says he will continue to make the country safe, it will happen rapidly, and he will not allow people in who are looking to do harm.
Although the final decision on Trump’s travel ban is likely on its way to the Supreme court, the 9th Circuit has specifically mentioned passages in the order that they used to justify their decision to uphold the stay. It’s conceivable that the Trump administration could simply draft a similar executive order, adjust the language used and enact it immediately. Lawyers and groups opposed to this travel ban on terrorism prone countries would then have to start proceedings all over again, investing more time, resources and money into their opposition of Trump.
If the president is saying action will be taken rapidly, you can expect another executive order in the next week, as Trump’s dedication to national security isn’t likely to be stopped by liberal politics plaguing the justice system.
