Administrators at the University of California Santa Cruz have agreed to all demands made by the school’s African/Black Student Alliance organization after their members occupied Kerr Hall (the campus’s Administration Center), a building typically opened to all students, locked the doors, covered the windows with propaganda posters and vowed not leave until their demands were met.
“If the university fails us, there will be no business as usual,” A/BSA told the university’s newspaper.
It appears leaders at the University of California Santa Cruz were sufficiently intimidated, as Chancellor George Blumenthal sat down with the protesting occupiers, but only after he convinced them to hold negotiations at a separate building since he had “received threats and feared for his safety”. The sheer thought of disciplining students of color in the same manner he would anyone else obviously paralyzed the school’s chancellor with fear.
The student’s primary demand was over a Rosa Parks Africa-themed house in which they demanded be turned over to Black students. In fact, as their written demands states, not only Black students will have first rights to the Rosa Parks building, but any Afrikan, Black or Caribbean person “regardless of housing status and college affiliation”.
1) “Similar to EOP students and International students’ housing guarantees, we demand that ALL African Black Caribbean identified students have a 4 year housing guarantee to live in the Rosa Parks African American Themed House. Guaranteeing this would provide a viable living option to all (Afrikan/Black/Caribbean) identified students regardless of housing status and college affiliation. We demand a written agreement by the opening of housing applications in April 2017.”
Students claimed that their building takeover should be described as a “reclamation,” not “occupation.”
In other words, this student group felt they were reclaiming the Rosa Parks building from oppressive White people, not actually using oppression and fear tactics to take over the building themselves.
Of course, just giving People of Color guaranteed rights over any other race to the Rosa Parks house was not enough, as the student group also demanded the building be painted in Pan-Afrikan colors (Red, green and black) to show off their African pride. Oddly enough, the colors of the country they are actually attending college in, America (Red, white and blue), were nowhere to be found in their list of demands.
3) “We demand that the university fund the ENTIRE exterior of the Rosa Parks African American Themed House being painted Pan-Afrikan colors (Red, green, and black) by the start of Spring quarter 2017. These Pan Afrikan colors represent Black liberation, and represent our diaspora, and the goals of our people.”
Apparently their goals include forcefully taking over buildings and isolating themselves from the “fears” of living next to someone who is not the same color as them. Sound familiar? It should, as this is exactly the type of discrimination that Martin Luther King Jr. fought against when he famously said, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”
It looks like Martin Luther King Jr’s dream has yet to come true, as due to the color of a student’s skin they will not be granted the same housing privileges as another race.
That’s not the only demand that was met by the capitulating Chancellor George Blumenthal, as all future incoming students of UC Santa Cruz will be forced to take a mandatory “in-person diversity competency training” course before they can attend classes.
4) “We demand that all new incoming students from 2017-2018 school year forward (first years and transfers) go through a mandatory in-person diversity competency training in the event that the online module is not implemented by JUNE 2017. We demand that the training be reviewed and approved by A/BSA board every two years. We demand that every incoming student complete this training by their first day of class.”
I can imagine that in order to be deemed “diversity competent” at UC Santa Cruz, a White person must accept the payment of reparations for acts they did not perform, be judged as racist for no reason other than the color of their skin and accept that the needs of people of color will always come before their own.
The expression on Fox New’s Tucker Carlson’s face pretty much says it all.
Ironically, some of these student’s ancestors may have fought against segregation many years ago, but now the insanity of liberalism has come full circle, and few university leaders seem to have the courage to stand up to cry-bullies anymore. I can’t help but wonder, if White students had forcefully occupied a building and demanded incoming White students be granted special housing privileges, would their demands have been met?
As yet another university gives in to the demands of cry baby students who use fear and threats to get their way, parents are going to have to think long and hard before shelling out thousands of dollars for their children to receive 4 years of diversity training at UC Santa Cruz.
